This talk will present Discoverer+, the upgraded successor to Bulgaria’s petascale Discoverer supercomputer. The enhancement introduces a new GPU partition built around four DGX H200 systems, expanded flash and Weka-type storage (5.1 PB Lustre + 273 TB Weka) and upgraded infrastructure (new UPS, high-speed interconnects) to enable work-loads ranging from scientific simulation to large-language model training.
We will also explore BRAIN++, Bulgaria’s upcoming AI Factory located at Sofia Tech Park, part of
the EuroHPC JU’s network of AI Hubs. With €90 million in funding, its architecture includes
Discoverer++, an advanced supercomputer tailored for generative AI, robotics, Earth
observation, and large model deployment. Additionally, BRAIN++ will host a one-stop service
platform for government, academia, and industry, offering access to data sets, compliance
tools, training, and a sandbox environment to accelerate trustworthy and regulation-aware AI
innovation.
Together, Discoverer+ and BRAIN++ provide Bulgaria and the wider European HPC/AI ecosystem
with a robust, hybrid infrastructure—balancing performance, scalability, and energy
efficiency—positioned to meet current and future demands of AI research, industrial
applications, and scientific discovery.
